Terms of Service

The service

Iris.Art captures biometric data you provide — iris, voice, pulse, face, handwriting, fingerprint, palmprint, periocular, and rPPG-face — and converts it into a personalized musical composition, together with a report showing how each measured feature became a specific musical decision. Everything we deliver is digital: audio, a MIDI file, and a report. We don't sell physical products.

Iris.Art is an art and entertainment product. It is not a medical, diagnostic, identification, or security service. Nothing a composition or its report tells you should be treated as a health finding, a claim about your identity, or a basis for any legal, medical, or financial decision.

Your account & age

You sign in via Google, Apple, an email magic link, or an email address and password. You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. The age minimum stated in the consent text you accept at /consent applies — you must meet it to create an account or complete a capture.

Whose biometrics you may upload

You may only upload biometric data — an iris, a voice, a face, a fingerprint, or any other capture — that is your own, or that belongs to someone who has given you clear, informed consent to upload it on their behalf. Biometric identifiers are sensitive by nature and, in places like Illinois, carry statutory consent requirements with real legal exposure (see our Privacy Policy). Uploading someone else's biometric data without their consent is a violation of these Terms regardless of your jurisdiction, and we may suspend or terminate an account we reasonably believe has done this.

We do not independently verify whose biometric data you upload. The AI guardrail that screens uploads before processing checks capture quality (is an eye actually visible, is handwriting upright) — it does not, and cannot, verify consent or identity. That responsibility is yours.

Consent to biometric processing

Every capture requires you to complete a separate, versioned consent step at /consent before it is accepted. DNA fusion (see our Privacy Policy) requires an additional, independent opt-in and its own consent text the first time you enable it. These consent flows are part of, and incorporated into, these Terms.

Your content & your license to it

• You retain ownership of the biometric captures you upload. By uploading them, you grant us the limited license needed to process them and generate your composition, exactly as described in our Privacy Policy.
• You own the compositions, MIDI files, and reports generated from your own captures, and may listen to, share, and download them freely, including for commercial use, unless we tell you otherwise for a specific feature (for example, a vocal variant built on top of another user's composition inherits that composition's ownership, not yours).
• We retain all rights to the Iris.Art platform, brand, source code, the specific feature-extraction and note-mapping algorithms, and the underlying technology. Nothing here transfers those rights to you.

Our platform, our rights

The specific equations that turn a measured feature into a musical decision, the model versions, and any golden-fingerprint test values are proprietary and are not published in full — see The Science for the public-level explanation of how the mapping works in general terms.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• upload biometric data you don't have the right to upload (see above);
• attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract our feature-extraction models, note-mapping equations, or ML service internals;
• attempt to circumvent the Illinois geoblock or any other access restriction;
• use the service to generate content that is unlawful, harassing, or infringing; or
• interfere with the normal operation of the service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

Subscriptions & billing

Iris.Art offers a free tier and a paid "Iris Pro" subscription, billed monthly or annually through Stripe. Pricing, billing cadence, and cancellation are described on the pricing page and managed self-serve through the Stripe billing portal linked from your account page. Refund terms are described separately in our Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms.

Availability & changes to the service

We aim to keep Iris.Art available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. The rendering pipeline depends on a third-party music-generation API (musicapi.ai); if that provider is unavailable, composition rendering can be delayed or fail. We may add, remove, or change features (including modalities, model versions, or pricing) at any time.

Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that feature extraction, MIDI generation, or audio rendering will be error-free, or that a third-party rendering provider will always be available.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Iris.Art is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have that cannot be waived under applicable law (including certain protections under Illinois BIPA and similar statutes, to the extent they apply).

Termination

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time from /account — see Deletion & erasure for what happens next. We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms, including the biometric-consent requirement above.

Governing law

Specific governing-law and dispute-resolution terms will be finalized with counsel before this document is treated as final.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do; continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
